Green Legacies Projects that have endured or will capture the imaginations of future generations
Tuesday, November 30th: afternoon (3 hrs)
Sites:
- Vancouver Convention Centre - The largest non-industrial green roof in North America is designed to replicate the endangered coastal bluffs ecosystem. It's scale and view are amazing.
- Olympic Village - During the Olympics the recreation centre was the meeting place for the athletes. It is covered with a mix of Sedums, bulbs and grasses in a pre-vegetated modular system. The apartment buildings are covered with sedum mats and designed with the shape of athletes in action.
- Vancouver Public Library - A secret garden in the sky. Beautifully designed to mimic the movement of the Fraser River.
This will be a ticketed event – Pre-Registration will be Required - $55
Leading the Way The research that is moving green roofs into the future
Saturday, December 4th: afternoon (3 hrs)
Sites:
- BCIT Centre for Architectural Ecology - Learn how the scientists prove the benefits of green roofs with respected researchers who are leaders in their field. Tour the onsite test roofs and see the roofing evaluation modules.
- Vancouver Police Department Training Facility - A LEED Gold training facility for police officers covered in a sedum mat.
- Broadway Tech Centre Phase 2 - the 2009 Green Roof Award for Excellence Winner for the Best Commercial Intensive Green Roof provides migratory bird habitat with the use of native plants.

Habitat Havens Sites which were designed either to replicate a specific ecosystem or to provide food for birds, butterflies and bees
Tuesday, November 30th (afternoon) and Saturday December 4th (morning) (4 hrs)
Sites:
- Vancouver Convention Centre - The largest non-industrial green roof in North America is designed to replicate the endangered coastal bluffs ecosystem. This includes species of plants which support a thriving set of bee hives.
- Fairmont Waterfront - his hotel rooftop garden is a source of herbs and honey for the kitchens of the hotel. It provides an attractive view to hotel guests.
- BMW Richmond - As part of the dealership display on the roof, a green roof has been incorporated with bee hives- to start.
- Golden Properties - A unique shade roof which includes pacific northwest native plants and is designed to be a learning garden.

Snow Bunnies Visit some of the green roofs around Whistler and stay to ski and snowboard!
Saturday December 4th (full day)
Possible sites:
- Animal Shelter
- Firehall - 50% of the total roof area mimics the natural environment with grasses.
- Whistler Library
- Skiing at Whistler

A Capital Idea Enjoy a breathtaking ferry ride to Vancouver Island to see some of the green roofs in BC's capital region
Saturday December 4th (morning) – PLEASE NOTE: Tour must leave promptly to catch Vancouver Island ferry.
Sites:
- Butchart Gardens - The dome covering a bronze statue of carosel horse Anabel is covered by native mosses and sedums.
- Capital Region, District of Victoria - A demonstration and research roof, with a mix of sedums.
- Dockside Green - A LEED project, using native plants to create wildlife habitat.
- Burnside Gorge - 24 native species within varying depths of soil are used in this LEED platinum project which flows into the surrounding hillside.
