Toronto, Canada – September 30, 2011 – Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC)is pleased to announce that the City of Toronto’s award winning Green Roof By-Law has already resulted in more than 1.2 million square feet (113,300 square meters) of new green space planned on new commercial, institutional, and multi-unit residential developments across the City. The By-law, which came into effect January 31, 2010, will generate an area of new green space larger than Queens Park in Toronto! At no cost to citizens and taxpayers, the new green roofs will result in many public benefits that will be distributed throughout the City. In response to water scarcity in many regions of the US, Green Roofs for Healthy Citeis, in partnership with the American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC), has assembled a group of member experts to develop a series of professional courses on holistic approaches to conserve, produce, harvest, store and utilize water sources in order to be able to provide irrigation water for green roofs and walls in arid climates and water restricted areas.
